RIVERSIDE, California – Shaun Khojayan defended Chris Woods, an Australian man accused of committing several millions in fraud across the United States. Mr. Woods was extradited from Connecticut to Los Angeles where he appeared in the US District Court. Specifically, Mr. Woods was accused of assisting his two co-conspirators in securing $2.5 million through their false sale of a hospital to an investor.
His co-conspirators then took the money and tried to wager it on horse races in Hong Kong. However, the FBI alleged that $1.9 million was transferred to Mr. Woods’ US bank account for his payment of an AMEX debt and other expenses. Mr. Woods’ co-conspirators received sentences of 8 and 10 years in prison respectively. However, through Mr. Khojayan’s defense and mitigating evidence, Mr. Woods’ sentence was reduced to 4 years.
