Golden Raou Golden Watermelon
Yellow Watermelon - Golden Emperor
5/26/2026
Excerpt
Field Preparation and Planting Time Guide:
Mid-May, when it gets warmer, is the ideal time.
Sufficient Space:
As this is a large watermelon variety, ensure a spacious area of at least 1m x 3m (approx. 1 tsubo) per plant.
Soil Preparation and Fertilization:
Two weeks before planting, mix in dolomitic lime. One week before planting, mix in compost and base fertilizer, then till the soil. Lay down black mulch to raise soil temperature.
Planting:
Plant slightly shallow, being careful not to disturb the root ball.
Precautions and Tips:
Use nitrogen (fertilizer) sparingly. Too much fertilizer will cause excessive leaf growth and prevent fruit development (prevents vine overgrowth). Always pinch the main vine. When the plant has 5-6 true leaves, pinch off the tip of the main vine to encourage the growth of lateral vines which are more likely to bear fruit. Hand pollination is essential. To ensure fruit set, manually transfer pollen from male flowers to female flowers by 9 AM. Grow only one fruit per plant. To maximize the sweetness and size of the Golden Emperor, concentrate all nutrients into a single large fruit.
4th Class Seed Mail - No tracking or guarantee
Cannot ship to airplane zones
